Mr. Diabolicus

A 12 track free jazz album (38m 7s) — released April 7th 2023 on Four Flies

Mr. Diabolicus is one of the first – and nowutterlyimpossible to find – library albums composed by Fabio Borgazzi in the mid-60s, when he was still releasingfilmmusic under the moniker GiorgioFabor, which he stopped using soon after. The album's twelve instrumentals were originally conceived as possible background music to sinister, disquieting and, as the title suggests, 'diabolical' scenes or circumstances. Markedly experimental in style, most of the tracks have a dramatic and suspenseful mood, often due to the layering of obscure piano, vibraphone and organ melodies. But there is also room for more celestial and gentle atmospheres ("Sea Melody") and for smooth nocturnal jazz numbers ("Soliloquy For Vib." and "Magic Vibraphone", both featuring Franco Chiari on vibraphone), all of which act as counterpoise to the abstract atonal pieces that dominate the album. Now available for the first time in digital format thanks to Four Flies Records.
